Prof. Shosh Arad- President of Achva Academic College

 

Prof. Shosh Arad, President of Achva Academic College, brings to this position her leadership and administrative experience in academia and her scientific knowledge and expertise. Both these aspects of her career started at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, where she founded and headed the Institute of Applied Biosciences. She then went on to become President of the Ruppin Academic Center, where she held the position for 12 years. In parallel with these activities, Prof. Arad has held positions on Israel's Council for Higher Education and on its Planning and Budgeting Committee, which have given her a broad understanding of all aspects of higher education in Israel.


Prof. Arad graduated with a BSc in Biology from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem and an MSc cum laude from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. She received her PhD from City University of New York.


As an expert in the field of algal biotechnology, focusing on cell wall polysaccharides, Prof. Arad has published numerous review articles on the subject. She has mentored more than thirty graduate students in her laboratory and has over 100 research papers to her credit. She has also presented many keynote and invited lectures at international conferences. With proven experience in moving ideas from the test tube to industry, she has developed a number of algae-based formulations, which have been incorporated into the products of leading cosmetics companies worldwide.
