Gabriel Schreiber MD; PhD Born in Tel Aviv (1953), Married, two children, three grandchildren.   Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev and Professor at Achva College.  Head of the Psychoanalytically Oriented School of Psychotherapy, Ben Gurion University of the Negev.

B.Sc., Biology, cum laude, Tel Aviv University ; M.Sc., Biochemistry, com laude, Tel Aviv university; Ph.D., Neurochemistry simultaneously with  M.D., Tel Aviv University. Post-Doc, National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), Bethesda, USA.

Served as Chairman of the Division of Psychiatry (2014-2021), Chairman of the Student Admittance Committee for the Goldman School of Medicine , Vice Dean for Student Affairs and as Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences (2011-2014), Ben Gurion University of the Negev.  Served as Director of the Psychiatric Department and Services of Barzilai University Medical Center, Ashkelon (2006-2020).

His research studies, which deal with the involvement of G proteins and Beta- arrestins, proteins involved in post receptor signal transduction and its regulation, in the mechanisms of action of antidepressants and mood stabilizers, the pathophysiology, diagnosis and treatment of mood disorders, were awarded the international Bennet and Ziskind-Somerfeld awards from the American Society of Biological Psychiatry and the European Anna Monika award for research in depression.  His patented research originated a start-up company: Mind-sense, for developing a biochemical assay for aid in diagnosis of depression and monitoring and predicting treatment effects.  His research also involves the use of non-linear dynamics, chaos and fractals in understanding psychoanalytic theories with a special emphasis on the theories of Z. Freud and J. Lacan.

He has recently published 2 books in Hebrew: “Simply Complex: A Literary-Geometric NonLinear Journey from Borges to Lacan” (Resling, 2011) and “Lacan, Admittance and Acceptability: Psychoanalytic Aspects of Medical Admissions Interviews” (Niv, 2021).  At the age of 21 he published a book of poems: “Jeans” (Traklin,1974).

During his deanship the Interdisciplinary Research Enhancement Program was established, resulting in an increase in university and faculty funding for interdisciplinary research groups, increase in external research funding (The Goldman Foundation Fund for Interdisciplinary Research), a substantial increase in the number of external competitive grant applications and funding.  During his deanship the number of students in the Medical and Nursing Schools was substantially increased. An agreement for clinical teaching was signed with new Medical Centers. A new B.Sc. program in Medical Sciences (Pre-Med) was established. He also initiated new teaching programs in Humanism, and a Mentoring program in the Medical School together with new Inter-professionalism (IPE) programs in the Medical School and the School for Medical Professions.
